Charles University is the 676 Year Old University in the World and was founded by Charles IV, the Czech King and Roman Emperor, on 7 April, 1348. From the very beginning, Charles University was characterized as a “studium generale” and the King awarded it all the privileges enjoyed by the other old Universities. It has the distinction of producing Nobel Laureates. The University has 5 Medical Colleges affiliated to it. Pilsen and Hradec Kralove are two among them. The standard of education is comparable to that of USA and UK. Charles University in Prague consists of 17 faculties of which five are faculties of medicine. Three of them are located in Prague, one is in Hradec Králové, and one is in Pilsen (Plzeň).
